Dear All,

I know what is surcharge load. but how do we calculate
1. if the effect of substructure of any buildings coming near
2. if vehicle loads are considered.

The AASHTO specs have equivalent uniform surcharge pressures for highway vehicle loads. The magnitude varies based on the depth of the wall and the direction and proximity of the traffic to the wall. If you can be more specific about the situation, you may get more specific answers.

You should check out the NAVFAC design manual 7.02. Lot of good information there. I believe that’s where those graphs retired13 posted came from.
