Surface Area for Chain Link

Hi Guys,

I have been asked to carry out CP calculations for mooring chains. However, I am not sure if I am calculating the surface area for mooring chain correctly.


I have attached an example of the chain. Please guide me the correct method for surface area calculations.

In water or in air?

For a typical chain link, I would calculate the surface area of a toroid (for the two ends) and of two cylinders (for the straight part of the link).

Hi,

It does not need to be accurate. The surface area calculation is in Air. Apolgoies for the broken link.

I agree the last option is to use toroid and 2 cylinders as base case for calculation.
