Hi there!...
I´m introducing myself to Patran/Nastran (i´m used to work with Femap) and I´ve been having problems with surface contact...
Let´s suppose we have two structures, one over the other, with planar surface contact, and fixed with bolts...
How can I represent this "surface contact" with Patran?
Thanks in advance!

with nastran and patran you have 2 choice:
1) try using mpc rbe2 with 1dof and node edited to analisis cid so that 1dof is allined with this axis. than you can simulate contact with an iterative procedure so to remove to your analysis group all mpc constraing your flanges.your aim is to obtain a configuration that simulate your contact problem and that can be different from another bc applied.
2)gap element non adaptive....is good also for sol 101....compression 1.e+6....tension 1.......sliding 1.e+5........

good work.
