Surface finish interpretation

Looking for clarification on the surface finish symbol on this print. I know the purpose of the line at the top of the symbol, but I've never seen it extend to the left. It doesn't look accidental so maybe it has a purpose I'm not aware of?

Thanks. BTW print was originally done in '59.

Looks like something tRump did with a sharpie. It's malformed by any standard I've ever seen.

The Help for this program was created in Windows Help format, which depends on a feature that isn't included in this version of Windows.
 
Just a side note: The thread call out is for a UNF thread however the spec (MIL-S-8879 currently AS8879)and the minor diameter listed is for a UNJ thread form.
