Everything is working well with the program that I have written thanks to a lot of help from users of this forum. One additional request has been made to add to my program: The ability to dissolve sub-assemblies into top level assemblies. This is a one line command if I am using 'SolidWorks' API, however this function is not readily accessible from the Document Manager dialog. But can get a list of references, both top level and sub components. Would it be possible to read the sub references, delete out the subassembly reference in the master assembly, and add back in the components? Basically doing the dissolve command manually. I imagine that I would lose my mates, but that’s acceptable in most cases. Thanks.

Sorry, but I don't think that'll be possible. You can't really modify the structure of a document with the document manager. You can query most of it, and modify things that are there already, but since the top level assembly doesn't actually contain any references to the individual components of the subassemblies, you can't dissolve the subassemblies without opening the files with SolidWorks.
