We're using NX 7.5.4 and Tc 8.3.2. We have several vendor parts that have been used in different assemblies and so have been entered into teamcenter. The vendor has made modifications to the items and I want to "swap" the new part with the old parts so the new part is the one in the item ID, not the old part. That way we don't have to open each assembly and replace the parts. I have tried to export the part out using the named references, swap the parts and import the new part in but I get errors. I tried exporting the part when checking out and then swap the parts but then the error I get is it is not a valid version and won't open the part in the assembly. In native it was simple, just delete the old and rename the new with the part number and when the assemblies were opened the new part was there. Not so simple in Tc and the part(s) have too many references to delete the item ID with the old part and rename the new part to the same item ID. Anybody find an easy way to do this?

Can you bring in the new vendor version as a new revision or even iteration of your TC number?

Haven't been able to do that either. I keep getting the same error(s). either that item is not a revision of the part and won't open or there is a problem with the xml sheet and won't open.

Scott, is the part you are substituting with native NX or imported model?
Also in your load options, is "allow substitution" option checked? How about abort on failure?

Thanks for the post. Somehow the "Allow Replacement" had become unchecked, and I didn't think about that. After rechecking it, the parts all were able to be replaced. To answer to rest, yes I am substituting with native NX and the "Cancle Load on Failure" in unchecked.
