I am new to SW and I was wondering if there is a command similar to the Variable Section Sweep as used on Pro Engineer?

The Sweep Feature is the SWX equivalent to the ProE Variable Section Sweep. ProE does have a few more options/features in thier version, however. SWX does not have a substitute for trajpar, for example.

In SWX, guide curves with pierce constraints are used to control the shape of the section as it is swept along a path.

You can regain a little lost ground from the loss of variable section sweeps by getting to know guide curves in the SW sweep feature. Remember that points in a section need to be constrained to a guide curve ith a pierce constraint.

I don't miss much about Pro/E, but variable section sweep was absolute gold.

It would be a good thing for SWx to develop variable section sweep and trajpar. Since PTC is trying to make WildFire look and feel like SWx why not go after some of PTCs functionality. I'm not totally convinced that guide curves is a total solution. Although, I've been able to do some really complexed feature using guide curves when I was using SWx 2003, But like Tick mentioned I would only miss Variable Section Sweep functionality if I were to go back to SWx.

Cool features about variable section sweep and trajpar:

•trajpar: variable that goes from zero to 1 over the length of a sweep. You can use equations to vary parameters w.r.t. position on sweep path

•tangency to guides: If you selected surface edges for guide curves, you could constraint tangent to the surface. As surface changes along sweep, tangency is held

•curvature control: not really a sweep function. Still, Pro/E splines and lofts allow for explicit curvature control.

Yes trajpar would be a great addition in SWX sweeping.

Like Tick said, trajpar is a variable that is local to a sweep. It varies from 0 to 1 along the length of the sweep. Thus, you can set up a local equation to vary a dimension(s)in your profile sketch along the sweep.

For example, simple sweep of a circle along a straight path. Internal equation of dia=trajpar+1 would result in a cone with begining diameter of 1 and end diameter of 2.
