Basically if you cut holes in a standard B 16.5 flange then it's no longer a "standard component" and you need to requalify it.

Note that often the ASME VIII calcs show lower max pressure than the standard B 16.5 flange.

But lots of people make and supply these and they come with documentation showing the max working pressure etc.
Especially PV manufacturers, filter manufacturers and similar.

Why not just buy one?

But if not what sort of pressure and size are we talking here?

Thank you for tour reply.
I am traying to leaen how to design them so i can make that part of the vessel. I am having trouble finding information about this. I thought that there was some kind o guide or Excel sheet to design them

It's all in ASME VIII see the linked posts.

It is not an Excel sheet design issue.

If you get it wrong your flange flies off.

What pressure and size are we talking about?

Think about it for a minute - that's over two tonnes of force on those bolts...

Good to know - BTW where did you get your original drawing from?

I think the blind flange would flex too much to seal well. A single O ring seal on a filter doesn't seem like a great idea either.

But for this sort of pressure and force, what advantage do you get vs standard studs and nuts and a normal flange? I can see it when you can have wing nuts and similar fast removal nuts, but not for a filter under pressure. IMHO.
