Hello,
I know this has been discussed before. I am reviewing some swing bolt lug calculations for ASME Section VIII, Div.1. There seems to be many ways to check the stress in the lug. I assume the combined stress (shear and bending) should be checked using the maximum shear stress theory or Von Mises stress. Since this is a combination of both shear and bending stress, what should the allowable stress be based on? Individually, I believe bending would be 1.5X and shear would be .8X the material allowable stress.
Thank you.
