Hi,

Supplier is having trouble sourcing API5L PSL2 pipe and is asking if OK to switch to IS2062.

Is this OK? My research syas that IS2062 equivalent would be A36.

Opinoins and comments please...

Seems to be similar to Grade B at least on SMYS, but you need to do a compare and contrast and really get a materials engineer involved.

Try a similar question in the metal and metalurgy forum.

But really - in todays market they can't find 5L PSL2 pipe??

What grade were you looking for / size, length?

NO!
IS2062 is for use in structural frames, as is A36. Are you fabricating pipe, or structural steel?

API 5L comes in different yield strengths. What yield strength are you trying to buy?

A FEW WORDS OF ADVICE. FIND A DIFFERENT SUPPLIER AND NEVER CALL THAT GUY AGAIN!

Thanks for the replies guys. Very much appreciated and basically underlining what I already thought...

I suspect that the supplier is trying to do a bit of a cost-cutting exercise as opposed to being "unable to source" the correct grade.
