does anyone know where can i find example applications and samples for getting more familier about this software and procedures? i have already downloaded its manual but i need more practical samples
There are 3 tutorial examples that come with the SWMM5 package. These are installed with the software application. Look for the "*.INP" files.
You can also download 20 input files from the SWMM W3 site. These are included in the "epaswmm5_qa.zip" file, described as "Quality Assurance report for dynamic wave flow routing" on the W3 site.

I suggest looking through the links/files I posted above and going through the tutorials/examples. Several of these have ponds and/or storage nodes.
The pond routing is fairly straightforward.
The help in SWMM5 is "context sensitive". When you are in the storage node windows, clicking help will bring up help on that portion of the application.
The best way to learn the application is to take a few hours to run through the tutorial and look through the examples. Once you do this, I think you will have a "feel" for the system and will be able to start applying it to a variety of applications.

I didn't see a pond scenario in the tutorials, just a storm network. I'm mostly interested in how do model the outlet structure. I want to use an outlet node from a storage unit to model a riser/barrel structure from a pond. However, SWMM wants a rating curve either in the form of a defining function or a table. I could certainly generate this curve in terms of driving head vs. outflow, but wouldn’t the rating curve change based on the downstream conditions (i.e., backwater)? That is, if my outlet pipe is submerged, my rating curve will be invalid, correct?
You can model a pond with a storage node and junctions/outlet, storage node and junctions/pipes, storage node and weir/orifice, channel and junctions/pipes, or some other combination. You can use a divider if needed, depending upon routing method (dynamic/kinematic). If you use a rating curve, SWMM will process this to allow the "most limiting flow" to drive the system. Your rating curve is invalid only if the rating curve incorporates the tailwater condition. I know that sounds backwards, but the tailwater condition needs to function independently of the riser/barrel (weir/orifice/pipe) of the pond outlet structure - so you have that defined separately by the downstream channel/condition. Try this out and post again if this doesn't make sense or you try and need further help. Please attach your *.inp file with any post.

Ok, I think I've got it. I just put an orifice link and a conduit link downstream of the storage node. I intend this to represent the riser (orifice), then the barrel (conduit). My concern is whether or not SWMM will also check to see if the orifice will act as a weir under low flows? I intend to download the timeseries of flows from the outfall conduit into the pond and insert that as an inflow hydrograph into a spreadsheet when I get a chance so that I can compare the results with a method I'm familiar with. Take a look at the attached inp file when you get a chance. I am using dynamic routing.
