Symbol Creation 2

1)Is it possible to create our own symbols in SW?.& use it in drawing
2)In drawing why we cant attach any thing like notes,balloons to Planes
3)The Blocks cannot be attached to any thing in drawing view

Plz help as i need these info's reg my project assignment.

You can create your own symbols and place them into a block. Have you looked at using the Character map?

You can attach a Note to a view, by "locking view focus" or if you don't have that option checked then you can just double click the view.

Nope blocks can't be attached to anything in a drawing (As far as I know)

One caution about customized SW symbols:

Anyone who opens your drawing will require the same character map file. The character definitions do not get embedded in the file.

If you want to represent a plane in a drawing, try sketching curves and making them coincident or collinear with the plane to represent the plane if it is in section. If the plane is not viewed edge-on, perhaps a construction sketch of a rectangle or a planar surface body on that plane in the model.

1) I dont think so, but SBaugh's suggestion to use the character map is a good alternative. If it is a symbol you will use often, just make a note of the "ALT+XXXX" code & use it when typing the note.

2) Because drawings are flat, 2D beings. They dont have planes. You may be able to see them in the Drawing View Manager but they serve no real use in the drawing view.

3) If you activate the block's "leader", the arrow can be attached to parts of the drawing view & will force the block to move with the view.

my 2 cent....
I hear in SW2005 you can add symbols to notes on dwgs.
eg Finish symbol to dwg notes.

Edit the file Gtol.sym and create your own symbols.
The file contains instructions for creating symbols and symbol libaries.
Be careful! Create a backup of the original file. If SW don't start after editing the file, it's because you have a sintax error in it.
Lots of trial and error before you get a symbol that looks good.

Thanks 4 all u guys
Today ive got a SW SP2.1 installed . In that i was able to attach block to edges of my parts in drawing view. This attached block gets updated if I alter some distance in my part file.

Some info abt block in SP 2.1
You can now drag blocks, not only by their base points, but also by points of sketches within blocks. The points inference and snap to other points in the following ways: block-to-block, block-to-sketch, sketch-to-block, and sketch-to-sketch. For example, you can drag a block by the vertex of a rectangle inside the block and snap to the end point of sketched line on the drawing sheet or in another block. The snaps do not create relations, so you can drag the entities apart.

What I meant by my post, is to draw a symbol inside of a new drawing, then click on Tools\Blocks\Make It creates a new block with your symbol in it.

I thought you could drag a note by its handle and attach it to something like a dimension (or other note) by droping onto it. It's been a long time, so I might be remembering wrong.
