Symmetry Link update via script

I've been looking but have not found a method of updating the assembly symmetry link via script.
The problem is if you rename the parent part via script and refile it the child loses it's symmetry link.
This part becomes inaccessable and can not be rewritten to the file system.
If the parent is renamed manually the link is automatically updated.
Anyone have any clues or is this a bug.
Thanks,
Puck

This is one of the major problems with File Based V5. Once you have created any links of any kind (i.e. Assembly, Contextual, Drafting), you cannot rename the file. If you rename the files inside of CATIA, with all documents containing any of these links loaded in your session, you can rename them. You will then have to re-file all of these documents, as CATIA will have updated them with the new names.

The only way to fix a document's links after the fact is to use EDIT LINKS, and REPLACE. I'm not sure if there any API's available to do any of this in VB or not.

Note: Using VPM will alleaviate this problem, however it brings in a host of others.
