I have the Beckwith M3425 relay protection on the 72MVA generator. This gen can run as normal (producing power to the system) or it can run without the turbine (produce only VARS to the system for voltage support, synchronous condenser mode). When doing the settings on the relay, I can program it (40,32,50/27,27,81u/o,50,51) for under normal mode. What element should I need to change when the gen is operating under synchronous condenser mode?

Any help is appreciated.

Thanks

jt

The 32 element will be a problem, because without the turbine you'll need to drive the generator as an unloded sync motor, thus reverse power protection will have to be set above the power required to drive the generator, or disabled during "motor" operation.
