Is anyone using the Adept PDM software from Synergis? If so, how is it going so far? We are seriously considering this software and I am interested in any information I can get.

Thanks

We compared Adept and Coniso for our document management software and ended up with Conisio. Adept was just getting into SolidWorks at the time and we just felt more comfortable with purchasing Conisio.

I evaluated Adept when it was just being released. Synergis is our reseller for AutoCAD and we use their NFM Software for managing our DWG files. NFM is now called Adept. When I evaluated Adept for SolidWorks it lacked the ability to read in configuration specific custom file properties when it propagated its library card system for files. There were a couple of other things that bothered me, but they said they were working on them. I decided to purchase PDM/Works because they had been around much longer and had better support for SolidWorks files at the time, rather than be a guinea pig for someone. I have been happy with the PDM/Works product. We didn't need something large scale, just workgroup solution that a non IT engineer could manage without getting consumed. I gave my thoughts and inputs to SolidWorks when they were developing the bulk load functionality, so that we can get all our DWGs out of NFM and into PDM/Works quickly. Joy Pineau, the product manager for PDM/Works was very responsive and interested in our needs to do this. You should check with Synergis again to see where they currently are, they might have improved since I have seen them. They can probably do some things that PDM/Works can't, but when I looked at it, those extras weren't a priority for me - Support of SolidWorks files was king. I get a more comfortable feeling with PDM/Works, because I know SolidWorks will develop it tightly along with the main product and its one less peice of software to manage.

We have been using the Synergis Adept PDM for Solidworks now for about 3 months and have been very happy with it. I recently found out that Synergis became a Gold Partner, which makes it even easier to get a hold of. We have been happy with it's performance, and have only seen minor issues. If you're looking for file management software that's comprehensive, but simple to use (good old sign-in and sign-out functionality), then Adept is the way to go.
