The easiest and fastest way, although it's technically not 100% accurate, is to change your Visualization settings such that Smooth Edges are displayed with a different line font. I prefer Phantom lines. On occasion, you will run across a few instances where this won't be accurate but more often than not, and especially with G1 (tangent continuity) you'll see the line font change when the faces are tangent. If you do this, make sure you select ALL views or when you use Replace View it won't apply it like you would want. The only time this would not be recommended is if your Modeling Angular tolerance is set extremely low compared to the visualization tolerances used to determine a smooth edge.
It's difficult to tell what you're describing because you've shown 2 completely different parts - one includes recesses/cut outs that look like they're not tangent and the other shows a cut section through a completely different solid body.
