Hello,

I am trying to model a runoff drain to a swale. The swale is inside the drainage area.

In the HydroCAD model, I have one subcatchment going to a reach(open channel), but the TC in the subcatchment area includes the swale that is going to be discharged to. I was wondering if I should divide the subcatchment area into two subcatchment areas, so the TC would end before entering the swale. Does it make any difference doing so? Please advice.

Best,
Serene

In general, the Tc calculation should end at the next node in the routing diagram. So if you use a separate reach to model the swale, you should not include the reach as a Tc segment. If you don't need to perform a separate reach routing, then you can include the swale as a Tc segment. Do one or the other, but don't include the swale in both places.
