Can anyone tell me what the technical german terms for various pressures are? I fear a non-technical translation from my school Enginsh/German dictionary may prove wrong.

static pressure =
dynamic pressure =
total pressure =
gauge pressure =
absolute pressure =

If you happen to work at a company with offices in Germany, maybe an english-speaking engineer with a local assignment over there could help?

Insinuations, insinuations and not the first time either ;-) If it pleases you ivymike, yes you are right.

if you would like assistance in identifying such a person, I may know someone who can help... but this is obviously not the place to talk about it.

Thanks to EGT01 for what seems to be a rather good site for translation. I notice that the site might migrate to elsewhere, but it shouldn't be difficult to follow...

Other sites that I have used are good, but general-use. It is necessary to "verify" translations with reverse-translation, and it is easy to see that the results are often not-so-good. My own favorite example is using an Italian translation site for Exhaust Casing (as in turbine exhaust casing), and getting a phrase that reverse-translated into "sewage cistern".

The other option is to find a target-language equivalent of an engineering handbook, such as Mark's Mechanical ...

In any case, beware; if you have no knowledge at all of the target language, you cannot easily provide your own sanity check on website results.

static pressure = statischer Druck (Standdruck)
dynamic pressure = dynamischer Druck
total pressure = Totaldruck, Gesamtdruck
gauge pressure = Manometerdruck
absolute pressure = Absoluter Druck

For German-English translations I've been using this one for the last 8 years: I'd be surprised if there's any German-English English-German translation website getting even close to this one.
