TEFC vs TEAAC

Hi,

I'm preparing data sheets for some big pumps, medium voltage (4160V), and motors between 200 and 1000 HP. I have my doubts about requesting all motors with a TEFC enclosure, or maybe a TEAAC enclosure could be an option for the big ones.

Can somebody give me some recommendations when to use TEFC and when TEAAC, maybe considering factors such as: motor power, price, noise, etc.

For the HP sizes you have noted, the lowest cost units will be in
cast iron rib TEFC enclosures. The 200HP is a bit small for MV, but it is available. I would recommend 300HP - 1000HP at MV and
the 200/ 250HP in low voltage as typically these LV mtrs are off the shelf type machines. TEAAC designs start around 1500HP and higher - depends on the motor speed you require and the manufacture.

TEFC motors are generally more dust proof than TEAAC motors because there are fewer ingress points. As macmckim says, at your power ratings, TEFC would be cheaper and more of the norm.
