Telescopic Boom Crane

Hi All,

1. In a telescopic boom, what material is used between the two tubes so that when the inner hollow tube moves out, it does not rub against the outer hollow tube.

2. How far is the inner hollow tube made to stop, and how?

3. Is there any engineering literature available on this type of marine boat crane?

I imagine different mfg's use various methods. Why not ask them - esp if you have a particular model in mind. Most are quite helpful - esp if they smell a sale.

Try the Coastal Hydraulic Cranes Website. Coastalcranes.com. I believe nylatron is a common wear pad material between the booms. The 3 section telescope crane we have seems to have a few feet of boom overlap. I think it depends mostly on the stroke distance of the hydraulic cylinder inside the boom.
