We use soda ash to prevent polythionic acid stress corrosion cracking of austenitic stainless steel equipment in a refinery, especially for equipment operating in reactor effluent service.

We use it for hydrotesting as well. However, when the hydrotest must be done at elevated temperature for brittle fracture concerns, the hydrotest fluid must be very high as well. What is the maximum temperature at which soda ash solutions should be used for hydrotesting? Are there any adverse effects once a temperature threshold is exceeded?
