Hi All,

For a 15,000 PSI Chart recorder, at what percentage of the chart should be the safe test pressure prior to getting a recorder with a higher range.

For example, I want to test an item at 13000 PSI,can I use the 15000 PSI recorder or will I need to get one with a higher static range?

A reason to go to a higher scale would be if you expect the applied pressure to be higher than sensing element can withstand without shift, damage or danger.

Overpressuring a mechanical sensor usually ruins it for measurement purposes.

The accuracy of a mechanical sensing pressure recorder (bourdon tube, spiral tube) is percent full scale (%FS).
Likewise, the accuracy of electronic pressure transmitters that send a signal to a recorder is %FS.

For %FS measurements, the closer the measurement is to full scale, the better the accuracy (the less the uncertainty).
