Hello, I have some injection molded plastic parts that I need to test (non-destructive) for voids. The parts measure 1.775in x 0.850in dia. Because the parts are made from a mix of materials, weight and density are not always linked to the presence of voids. Presence of voids does not always cause a dimensional change either. I know that I can do this with x-ray already but I would like to find another solution if one exists. The main concern with the voids is greater gas permeation over time, which is a bad thing. :)

Thanks!

One approach would be to use ultrasonic inspection. I have seen ultrasonice inspection used to check for voids in fiberglass booms.

X-ray and ultrasound are the typical options. If gas permeation is the effect (with voids being the cause), why not use a pressure test?

Cory
