Good day, forum

I understood that it's improper forum but google search gives only advertisement and so on. If somewhere here is related forum - please let me know or move this topic.

I'm a head of small process department and one of my engineer is going to leave us and move to another country. I would like to give her a testimonial (a recommendation letter). Please, can someone help with a testimonial examples in English. This issue is a real problem because I have no experience and google search gives no results.

I understood that can pull myself together, stop complain and spend more time and after all find some worth source but how much time will be wasted before...

Why copy someone elses work.

Even though you may have no experience in this you obviously are well educated so doing this should not be a problem.

This would be my advice.

Use your own words.

You are the head of the department and as you say its only a small group you probably know the lady reasonably well and you know the work that she does.

So you say that you have known her for ???? years and this is the type of work you do. Explain it a bit if necessary but not in elaborate detail.

If she does good work- say it.
If she has particular skills or is good at a particular type of work -say it. Explain it if necessary.

If she is a good team person , or works well on her own say it.

If you would like to have her back in the future -say it.

If you think she has a few weak spots -say that too but go gently because none of us are perfect.

This letter is most likely to be read by some one like your self- think about what you would like/need to hear about some one you were thinking about hiring.

Be honest.

Search through LinkedIn recommendations and see if anything fits you. There are some really glorious recommendations - you'd think some folks are able to walk on water.

What you are wanting to write is called a "letter of recommendation". Use that for your search term.

Thanks a lot guys! Yours responses are really appreciated.

Thanks a lot for examples. They helped me with - let me call it so - "personnel English".
