When trying to "engrave" a part number on a solid, by selecting the face, then hitting sketch-text, and typing it in, frequently the text is upside-wrong. Can this orientation be changed. I'm thinking maybe the origin could be rotated around the "z" axis. Please bear with me, My name is Boborush, and I'm a recovering Mechanical Desktoptition.

Try using:
Tools, Sketch Tools, Modify-
Then click in the angle box & enter desired change

I just create an extrusion, then start a sketch on the surface.
Then create CONSTRUCTION GEOMETRY to "write on".
Then select TOOLS > SKETCH ENTITY > TEXT.
This will have several options to control the orientation of your text.
Make sure you use a font that is "engraver-friendly".
The few times I actually used this, I recall getting some pretty silly-looking engravery.
Have fun...
