DOES ANYBODY KNOW HOW TO FULLY DEFINE AN EXTRUDED TEXT FEATURE? CURRENTLY THERE ARE OVER 100 CONFIGURATIONS OF DISCS WITH TEXT RUNNING AROUND THE PERIMETER OF THE DISC. WHEN OPENING A NEW SIZED DISC THE TEXT STAYS WHERE IT WAS FROM THE PREVIOUS DISC.
THANK YOU

EASY ON THE CAPS.

Text can be constrained (right/left justified or centered) to lines and curves wich can be fixed with dims or relations. The lines and curves should be construction geometry.

THANKS FOR THE REPLY,

THE ARC IN WHICH THE TEXT IS "FIXED" TO IS FULLY DEFINED. A REBUILD ON THE PART ALLOWS THE TEXT TO JUMP TO THE APPROPRIATE SPOT IN WHICH IT IS MEANT TO BE. THE ACTUAL TEXT IS BLUE, WHICH SIGNIFIES AN UNDER DEFINED SKETCH.

Text entities in a sketch are always blue and therefore undefined. If you want them fully defined you're going to have to sketch each letter (and constrain appropriately, of course). I'd live with the blue letters byself.

There are points next to each text to locate them. They can be dimensioned. But, there may be a lot of dims if a lot of text.

NB: I AM CURRENTLY USING SOLIDWORKS 05, THEREFORE I DO NOT HAVE POINTS TO DIMENSION TO/FROM.

IF YOU SELECT THE TEXT, THEY WILL COME.

You should use a construction curve concentric to your disc anyway.

The presence of the color blue does not necessarily mean something is undefined. Text has a single anchor point in 2005 (if I remember correctly), and therefore is constrained if the point is dimensioned to something absolute (like another sketch element, the origin, an arc, whatever).

Rfus' example above demonstrates a constrained anchor point, so the text won't go anywhere. It also continues in the ribbing you're receiving for leaving Caps Lock on while posting.

If I had to guess, I would think the text is blue because SolidWorks (and quite possible Windows itself) doesn't allow the user to dimensionally lock the content (words), alignment and font of the text. These attributes are controlled by other means.

Appologies for the caps lock on. Didn't think it was a problem.

The point you refer to Rfus, is not visible on my screen, is there an option that must be turned on in order to dimension to it?

thanks

The point is in the lower-left corner of the first digit (so if you have an L or something, it may be obscured). Select the Dimension tool and hover over that area, and the point will high-light so you can dimension it. (It's probably hidden so users don't think they accidentally inserted a period there. ???)

No worries on the caps thing. It may seem odd, but it comes across as yelling (yeah, some of us post too much here and get a little strange after a while. ..).
