I have recently come across some issues with plate structures and remember from University studying matrix analysis which would help. The problem I had was University is an awful long time ago, luckily I still have my old book (Theory of Matrix Structural Analysis) but stupidly not my notes - so I have begun to read the book to teach myself.

I am starting with the easier theories like virtual work and complimentary energy and am fairly confident I understand these, and I have attempted to answer some of the problems at the end of each chapter to make sure I actually understand these. The one issue I have is I have not got the solutionsto the problems....

Can anyone point me in the direction of where I may find the solutions?

One time I was so enamored with some of the water wave problems in a Structural Dynamics book.....I contacted the publisher to get the solutions manual to the book. And they sent it for free.

Maybe you could try the same with this publisher.

Hello... Would it not be easier to use the formulas in "Roarke" Formulas for stress and strain? Or even a FEA? You can download a 300 node program for free from Jl analyzer. Or I did many years ago.
There are also some excel sheets in other threads on plates.

You can also download Roarke.

I took matrix theory and have the book "Matrix analysis of framed structure" which tells about doing a program. This would be a bit of work.

There is a textbook solution website popular with students called "Chegg." They have online access to solution manuals for many textbooks which they sell for a monthly fee.

It can be a helpful item if they have your textbook, BUT like many subscription services today; they have 'auto renewal' and automatic monthly recurring charges. Cancelling the service can take a month and good luck getting a live person on the phone to help you when you want to cancel. I don't know if you can still do it, but I know people that subscribed using a Visa/Mastercard gift card just so they could avoid the cancellation headache.

Also, you cannot print the solutions that Chegg has. It is online access only. If you want to print a solution, you have to do individual screen captures and then paste items into Word. It is time consuming...

Anyway, if you can't find another source of the solution manual then try googling this........ "Matrix Structural Analysis & Chegg"

energy problems are difficult to check (being indeterminate). If you can't find the worked solution (personally I wouldn't use Roark ... I doubt you'd find an example close enough to your problem) then I'd solve the problem a second time using a different redundancy. If both solutions match, then you're ok (but what's the chance !!??)

another day in paradise, or is paradise one day closer ?

I'm not sure there is actually a solutions manual to that textbook.

If you are looking for other resources on this subject I could suggest some materials by JH Argyris:
"Energy Theorems and Structural Analysis", J.H. Argyris & S. Kelsey

"The Matrix Force Method of Structural Analysis and Some New Applications", J.H. Argyris & S. Kelsey

"Modern Fuselage Analysis and the Elastic Aircraft", Argyris & Kelsey

For the first, try searching the Cranfield Aerade: The second you can definitely find online. The third I think you can find on Amazon and is very good. Direct applications to aircraft structural analysis.

Thanks all for your help.

I will certainly have a look at some of the texts and sources recommended.

I have used Roarke and there is nothing that really matches the scenario that I have, although it is helpful!
