Is it possible to have a model of a pipe in Pro/Mechanica an apply a heat rate to it so that it heats up at 20C/hr. This is to find how much the temperature of the outside f the pipe lags the inside temp at certain heat rates.

If you set up a transient thermal analysis, it is not possible to vary a a prescribed temperature, but you can vary heat load or convection condition against time, so it might be possible to do your analysis.

Do you even need FEA for this? Heating up a pipe seems like you could find an analytical solution right out of a textbook.
