Hello,

I am looking for the thermal expansion coefficients (20->800°C) for the stainless steels:

304/L and 316L

Thanks

My Guide gives no results for the xxxL sires you are asking about. These are bothe lowered Carbon grades of SS. for 304 There are no values in my guide. for 316 though i have 15.9um/m from 0C to 100C and 16.2um/m to 315C and 17.5um/m to 538C.

Sorry for the lack of a definitive answer, YOu might want to try working backwards from the microstructure and thermodynamic data. I do remember there was a way to do this just the specifics escape me.

Thanks for your reply! Finally I found some data in the metals handbook up to 1000°C for some steels.

For 316 i found 16.0ppm/°C for 0-100°C. It matches quite well with the data I found. For the others I didn't check.

Best regards,

Uwe
