Hi,

What is the Thermoweld Fusing Temperature ?
Actually i need above information for Main Earthing Grid Conductor Sizing (Buried Mesh) for 132/11kV Substation.

NOTE: Welding material is an exothermic
mixture and reacts to produce hot molten
material with temperatures in excess of 2500
degrees Fahrenheit (1400 degrees Celsius) and
a localized release of smoke. Avoid direct eye
contact with “flash” of light from ignition of
starting material. Avoid inhalation of smoke/
fumes

Hi Waross,

Thanks for the feedback.

However i need the fusing temperature for the Exothermic welded Connection after the welding process is completed. This is the max. temp allowed for the welding while the earthing grid is in service. The temperature rise will happen due to the fault current which is flowing through the conductor.

You can use the fusing temperature of the ground wire (1083°C for copper).

Exothermic welding (Cadweld) is rated similar to the fusing temperature of copper conductor. The following fusing temperatures are generally used:
Exothermic Weld........~1084 oC
Pressure connectors... 250oC to 350 oC
Brazed connectors .....450oC.

Dear jghrist & cuky2000,

Could you please provide the same information from manufacturer Catalogue, actually i need to attached the same as reference along with my Earthing Calculation.

Thanks
ahk
