Thickness of casting gated test block

Hi,

We have an ongoing discussion with a foundry about the thickness of a gated casting test block. The thickest section of the casting is 200 mm, but the foundry insists its within the standard by having the thickness of 162 mm on the test block, see highlighted in yellow.

My interpretation is that is has to be 200 mm, or minimum 50 mm if the thickness of the casting is below 50 mm.

Anyone here that can help with this?

Ask the guys at the foundry to right out the reasoning for you.
They are wrong on this one.
If your casting wall is 200mm, then the smallest that the block can be is 200mm.
If they make it 200 x 300 then that results in a 100mm x 100mm test block when machined.
If you only need a thinner test block (say 30mm) then they could cast one 200mm x 230mm.
At least that is how I read it.
