Thin steel in the mold

Good afternoon,

I am designing an injected molded part and am working on the core side of the part. I have a call out to my molder about this question but wanted to ask for another opinion while I wait for him to return my call. I have a pocket that is formed by a wall and a few ribs. After applying draft and the largest internal fillet(wall/2)that I can squeeze in there, I have a tight area down at the bottom of the pocket in one of the corners. It is filleted by 1.25mm but I am wondering what would be considered as a thin steel situation in that area? I am measuring .75 to 1mm across the smallest area which would be the thinnest part of the steel core in that area. Is that an unacceptable amount?

Recommended for you

General rule of thumb: ribs/core (on tool) ideally 3x rib/core thickness max.
i.e. 1mm rib = 3mm height/ 6mm dia core pin = 18mm high.

Minimum tool thickness of cavity/to tool edge = 6mm (1/4")

Much will depend on material/flow pressures etc.
