Thin wall 17-4 Investment Casting 1

What is the minimum wall thickness experience for a thin wall investment cast housing produced using 17-4 SSt. Structure approx 8-9 inch diameter.

How thin are you looking for?
What about looking in a standard IC handbook?

We discovered a temperature limit issue with an aluminum design and now need to look at alternatives. We can get 1.5-2mm wall with the casing wall design in AL but not experienced in SSt.

By IC Handbook are you referring to the Investment Casting Institute? Is there another prime reference that can be more SSt specific?

You need to contact candidate suppliers as it will be their skill that is used to create the part.

It comes down to the ability to feed metal.
If there are ribs or fins that can be used to feed metal, then you can get thin sections between them.
It also depends on the tolerances that you are trying to hold.
You need to sit down with your casting house and talk through this.

I agree with all the comments above. You need to consider the ability to fill the mould cavity and then feed.Perhaps only a small section of the casting has thin wall casting. If the thin section is separating 2 thick sections you have a potential problem on hand. May be a casting manufacturer can help you more. Else approach AFS or Investment Casting Institute, who are always ready to help.
