I have question relating to the creation of threads within NX5 and the associated drawing.

When modeling a threaded shaft with the symbolic thread option on I can get NX5 to make the note associative within the related 2D drawing. (insert-feature parameters)

When modeling a threaded shaft with the detailed thread option on I can't get NX5 to make the note associative within the related 2D drawing. (insert-feature parameters)

Any reason why I should be able to associate the drafting text (eg. 'M2 x0.4') to a symbolic thred but not a detailed one??

Because modeling the actual threads using the Detailed Thread feature was never intended for use with Drafting but rather one that is there primarily to create the geometry necessary for photo-realistic rendering or for making topologically accurate models. If your desire is to create Drawings with 'detailed' threads in the views, there are Drafting options which automatically 'render' symbolic threads as if they were detailed threads. Just select the Drawing view where you wish to see these 'detailed' threads, press MB3, select the 'Style' option, select the 'Threads' tab and then select one the 'detailed' options under 'Thread Standard'. This will work on both threaded-studs (Male threads) or threaded-holes (Female threads) in a section view.

Hi - Thanks John

Thats great, now I can produce drawings with a bit more detail (useful for my M22 threads), without creating the M22 detailed thread on the model. (and the subsequent larger CAD file!) I didn't realise that option existed.

Rob.
