Hi,
I made a drawing of a worm shaft, but it turned out to be this

I don't want it showed like this, how do I change it to a engineering formation?
I have tried some ways searched on the internet, but it didn't work.

If anyone knows the problem, plz tell me.
Thanks.

search CATIA doc for threads in Part Design...

uh...search what?
I know there's a function "thread/tap" in part design, but the worm shaft wasn't made by it, that is why the drawing shows like a 3D projection.
catia only changes a product into engineering form when it was made by the function in Drafting, I guess.
So, I wonder a way to change the part automatically if the part wasn't made by thread function.
Actually, it's a worm, but I think there might be a function for it.

Thanks.

Hi nothingid,
I am not clear with your requirement. What exactly u want to show up in drafting? Please clarify.

Hi! @nothingid,

I guess you want to display the thread in the form of engineering drawing conventional representation..

I think it's not possible to have it without using the "thread/tap" function.

Since it is custom made by the user, i think it's not possible to display the thread convention..

Please correct me anyone who knows that this is possible..[smile]

Drawing will represent 3D the way it is.

If you want Eng. representation of the thread in drawing, then you need it in 3D.

@hims1980
you're right, that's my point

ok, I got it, your opinions are helpful.
Thanks, you guys really nice.

Nothingid, what you are showing in your attachment is perfectly fine for an engineering drawing. Actually, for a special thread like a worm rack, having the true picture of the thread is preferred over the thread symbol that is typically used on machine bolts and nuts.

oh,I see. Maybe the true drawing of a worm is a better way.
Your suggestion is pretty good.
Thanks.
