thread340-224073

Hello,

I am looking for any information on 1002 steel, particularly a BH Curve.

I had not heard of this steel until recently, and its apparently good magnetic properties.

Any help or pointers on this would be appreciated.

Jay.

I love that some of the curves that they use are from the 1930's.
This is the real thing, though annealing is still very critical.

Thanks for that link MagMike. There is a line on page 3 I do not understand.

"ARMCO Pure Iron undergoes pacification after melting in the LD converter by means of vacuum degassing."

I have never heard of attempting to cause iron to become calm or peaceful. I googled iron pacification but got nothing but links to stainless steel passivation which I don't think is at all similar.

The Help for this program was created in Windows Help format, which depends on a feature that isn't included in this version of Windows.

I believe the modern term is "degassification."

Passivation refers to formation of an oxide surface layer on the material to protect from corrosion.

"pacification" may refer to the state of the liquid steel after once most of the volitiles are removed.
