thumbnail images in History tab not showing (NX6) 1

Has anyone experienced problems where the thumbnails that normally show in the History tab are not saved? Instead of a nice thumbnail of the part, the only graphic shown is the NX logo...

Please reply if you've experienced this and/or know of a solution. Thanks!

Are your options set to store the previews? Is this a new problem that started when you installed NX6 or did it happen before/after the install? Is it only on one computer or multiple computers?

OK, let me refine my response ;-)

Yes, I've seen it, but since I know what's happening I tend to never think twice about it.

If you have a part file which was created while some other part file was the Displayed Part, such as when working in the context of an assembly, no preview image will be created since the image on the screen (which is what the software captures) is NOT of the Part being saved. This occurs most often when adding Family Table Parts to an assembly or when creating a new Component while working in the context of an assembly and then saving the part file as part of some File All operation. Eventually the new part file will be opened as the displayed part and hopefully saved (except Family Table members as they are a special-case and there is nothing that can be done about them) and then at that point the preview image will be captured and saved with the file.

I have seen this when using two monitors and NX is displayed on the number two monitor. Once you move it to the number one monitor they are saved OK.

Check the Customer Defaults – Gateway – Part settings and make sure it is active.

joycejo - thanks for the suggestion. It looks like your diagnosis was correct; moving the NX app to the main monitor prior to saving fixes the problem, and thumbnails get saved correctly. It seems like this is behavior which should be fixed by Siemens (though it's clearly not as high priority as some of the other bugs out there).
