Hello,

I am conducting a quick analysis on a subsea tieback structure to check its movement under compressive loading using Autodesk Robot Structural Analysis(RSA). I have currently applied the loading on the tieback as a LIVE LOAD - CATEGORY A (Eurocode Imposed loads - EN1991-1-1). Please is this good enough to get a reasonable solution?

I know RSA is not the preferred choice for this type of analysis but I am trying to make do with what I have. Any help will be greatly appreciated.

Thanks

Whilst Eurocode itself is not an appropriate code, What you are essentially doing is applying a load factor of 1.50 to your action (setdown/ tieback load).
There are more appropriate codes that you can use for subsea design (DNV, API etc.) they may even allow you to use a lower load factor (if using LRFD).

As you are working subsea, remember that for design checks, Eurocode does not consider hydrostatic pressures acting on your structure simultaneously to the design load.

You are right @MRob909.

I should have mentioned that I had already changed the load factor from the default 1.50 to a 1 in my analysis set up.

I think that based on your answer , what I have now using RSA is a s good as it gets and if I want better I would have to use the appropriate software.

Thanks
