Tilt-Up Concrete For Expansive Soils

How would someone hand the connection at the base for a tilt-up wall panel system for an expansive soil condition that could possibly heave the floor system? Would you still connect the panel to the slab or primarily rely on a connection to the foundation or none of the above.

Depends on the severety of the expansion - normally in high expansive regions you would not tie them together as the slab has to float and the tilt panel/foundation system is usually supported by deep foundations that will not move.

possibly use a slotted connection that would permit vertical movement.

Yes, I agree, a slotted connection like a Halfen would allow for vertical movement and also resist any deflection of the tilt wall due to the horizontal surcharge of the retained earth coupled with the live loading applied to the floor above.
