Hi everyone,

I am trying to design a 2 pulley system with a timing belt. The small pulley will be driven by a Nema 17 stepper motor, 0.4 Nm, speed 1000 rpm.
The largest pulley will be attached to a lead screw for driving a load and rotate at a speed of 250 rpm.

- I determined the power of the motor: Torque * angular velocity / 7127 = 0.056 hp
- I determined a service factor of 1.4, which gave me a design power of 0.0784 hp
- From the belt selection chart I determined a belt type XL, pitch 5 mm.
- The velocity ratio is 4, so I can use a small pulley with 10 teeth and a large pulley with 40 teeth.

At this point, I do not know how to select the timing belt.
Does someone know how to proceed? Is there a table that matches 2 pulleys with a belt length?

I work with much larger selections, so I can't offer any specifics, but I would first go to Gates.com and try to use their online application.

They used to have fairly detailed catalogs where there were tables showing sprocket options along with belt options and the installed length of that combination. I think it's all online now.
