Another stupid question! How do you access the attributes is the "canned" sheet formats (title blocks) in order to fill out the required info. I will eventually have to do custom formats, but right now I'd just like to know how they work in SW. I've worked for 20 years in AutoCAD but only 1 month in SW. I'm convinced they leave the "simple stuff out of the tutorials.

Right-click anywhere on the sheet and select "edit sheet format." This will allow you to modify the title block, etc. When finished, just right click on the sheet again, then select "edit sheet" to get back to the drawing. Save a copy as a template so you don't have to keep making changes over and over.

You can also use blocks (just like in acad) to make things easier.

It looked like you could use some kind of program to "fill in the blanks". I did go in and add my text. Which incidently gets rid of the text that looks like a "program could be used". But I'm now stuck in sheet editing mode and can't get out. Right clicking does not give me the option to "edit sheet" again. it pops up a dialog with 4 choices - view; dimension; annotation; and display grid. What did I do wrong?

Make sure your filters are off. Click X and try again. Zoom out full and RMC center of drawing and try again.
About the code goto and look into custom properties.
Good luck.

I have automated our title blocks and B.O.M. SolidWorks has a lot of powerful tools to make life a bit easier. I do agree that the easy stuff sometimes seems to be a bigger pain in the rear. The "custom properties" is the way to go to automate your title blocks (somewhat like the dialog box in acad). I have configured our drawing sheets to collect data from the part or assembly that is in the drawing. If you send my your addy, I can forward a sample to you and you might be able to see what is happeining a bit better.

SolidWorks is a bit different at first but it has many advantages over acad.

Jay
