I understand TJI are not made to work with collar.
In typical gable roof I used TJI-9.5" for longer span and cheaper price compared to sawn lumber.
Ceiling joists (red) then run parallelly with TJI and coil strap (green) at ridge beam. So far it has been oked, approved by AHJ a few time.
I read TJI manufacturer documents and they recommended straps/ties (yellow) run in perpendicular direction to TJI. I m sure they have engineer department, etc.
I wonder such recommendations have anything to do with resisting side walls to lean outward, as I m, an architect s understand the most concern regarding gable roof rafters. Or they are there just merely for blocking purpose.
Thank you in advance,
