Dear Sirs,

Can somebody please tell me what are the works to be performed by a Transmission Line electrical engineer?

The work is for construction of Transmission line.

Best Regards,

An electrical engineer may select the transmission conductor to carry the maximum operating current. He/she may also perform a line impedance study or system load study.

A structural engineer would be responsible for design of the supporting transmission structures and foundations.

A PLS-CADD model is often developed by an experienced designer. This is used to spot structures, aid in structural design, and verify wire clearances.

An electrical engineer also can perform an insulation coordination study to determine the lightning protection, expected electrical performance, noise study, losses, select the insulator electrical characteristics, select the shield wire or OPGW, tower grounding, recommend use of line surge arrester, EMF study, among other electrical tasks.

Often an electrical engineer cross the discipline boundary and get involved in structural, civil,ROW and other activities associated with the transmission line design and construction.

Polymer disk?

Below is a simplified curve to select disc porcelain insulator and a link for a typical transmission composite suspension insulator

The number of disc porcelain insulators is also a function of the pollution level of the particular site, altitude among other parameters. For normal operating conditions, the minimum number of disc insulators is usually around 8 to 9 units as shown in the following curve.
