Hello all,

I would appreciate any input on this,

I am having talks back and forth with the electrical contractor regarding grounding a newly installed transformer in the electrical room to existing grounding system, that is what the plan calls for. His problem is that he can't locate or find the existing grounding system (inexperienced!). The project is at a college and he wants to shut down the main service switch to access and find the grounding system(if he ever finds it!), the school doesn't want to have a shut down since it is occupied 24/7. Is there an easier way to find the existing grounding system (electrode)?

thank you

Check the plans. Don't touch it until you've checked the plans.

I have checked the plans, it indicates to connect to existing grounding system

I think LiteYear was referring to the original plans, from which the existing grounding system was installed.

I don't think you really want to find the grounding electrodes out in the dirt, do you?

Best to you,

Goober Dave

The fact that he cannot find the grid is not due to inexperience if you don't even have the original drawings.

Even a guy with 50 years of ground grid design is still stuck in the same spot without drawings.

Its a pure guess and a bad path to head down.

Even I'm inexperienced..but I think the problem could be dealt much easier by a change of plan.If you are talkin about a distribution transformer, why not provide new earthing..?? distribution transformers are usually given separate earth pits.. n i find it hard to believe u cannot find the existing system..look for a covering slab outside the electrical room..hopefully u will find it..
