I have just had an Eddy Current Inspection Carried out on some structural welds in a crane pedestal. There was 10.0mm crack reported in 2002 (before my time with the company) this was never verified with MPI and the NDT tech did not mark the location. During the subsequent years no one was able to find it again until last week.

It is now being reported as 15.0mm in length, assuming it is the same defect, MPI will be carried out next week to verify the size. The anomaly at this size does not give me cause for concern for the Integrity of the structure and they will be monitored until I can have it ground out.

What I am interested in is the Probability of Detection of Cracks using the ECI system & its tolerance/accuracy in sizing, any information on this would be gratefully received.

Thanks
Jim
