Does anyone have any experience/recommendations on Tolerance Analysis Software to run with solidworks?

Thanks in advance.

"Tolerance analysis software"? Meaning checking for interferences (which SW can do) or just for tight tolerances, etc.?

SolidWorks 2008 will come with Tolerance Analysis (stack up) functionality included.

If you have SolidWorks Premium, then SolidWorks 2008 will contain a Tolerance analysis program. It works by letting you dimension models with GD&T, targetting a distance you want to study, and then running a calculation to look at min and max conditions of the distance you selected.

Is Tolanalyst only available in premium and not the standard package?

I can't remember seeing a breakout of what is available with each package (standard, office, premium).

Only in premium. Probably would cost less to upgrade to Premium than it would to purchase separate tol analysis software, and you would get the whole enchilada with SolidWorks - FEA, Motion analysis, rendering, animation, PDM, etc...

Gbor - Tol stack ups for assemblies

Current license is Office Pro, might be worth the extra change versus a seperate package but will it be as good as an after market package and am I going to be dealing with all the issues that you generally get the first time around?

thanks guys

You would have to look at your requirements. You could always get a demo from your VAR to see if it meets your requirements.

I looked into this topic a few years ago just out of curiosity. I found two third party packages that integrated into solidworks. One is SigmundWorks and can be found here:
The other was called TASysWorks, but doesn't really seem around anymore.

I was pleased to see the addition of tolerance analysis to the premium package... unfortunately, I don't have premium. Maybe it will trickle down to office in a few releases.

I write my own excel spreedsheets....once you've invested the time into the first one then it's gravy after that.

Or do it by hand calculations.....but I guess that's a lost art.
