Hello all,

I am working with a big Patran model of around 160MB. The problem is that the more I work with it, sending different load cases to analyze or modifying it, the bigger it gets. I cannot understand why because the model is always the same, I haven't increased the number of elements so, in my logical, its size should not change.

Now its size is 350MB and that makes my computer much more slower so is there any way to reduce the .db file?

Thanks in advance.

1.Check for available jobs in your db. Delete Jobs that are not needed.
2.Check for result attachments

Thank you very much.

jeram123, I tried what you said and the file size reduces but not as much as it should, comparing with the original one.

However, I also tried your solution, compositecurves, and it worked really well. The new .db file is almost the half of the previous!!

Once the problem is solved, could anyone explain me why do it happened?

Regards.

Whenever you delete entities, output sets from your model the space that they occupied is marked as empty and the space still retained in the model file.
Then your model needs to be compressed.
Importing a.db in a new one will remove all of the empty space and reduce the size of your model file.

Thanks, now the question should be why Patran need to retain the space of deleted entities, but I suppose that there is no answer for that...

Regards.

Because when you would create new entities Patran will use this available empty space.

And why Patran couldn't get new space instead of reserving it from before?
