Toolbox: Where is PN & Description List Stored?

Hello.

I've created custom parts in toolbox, not with the wizard but by actually modifying the .sldprt file and the SWBrowser.mdb database.

That's all gone well but now I'd like to assign part numbers and descriptions to all of my new parts. I'm presuming that the P/N and description for yet-to-be-created configurations are stored in one of the database tables but I'll be durned if I can find it.

Has anybody done this and found where those are stored?

Thanks.

Beggar,
Open up one of the parts you have modified and there should be configurations listed. RMB on the first configuration listed (do not change the default configuration) and go to properties. There will be a panel that pops-up with three areas for modification. They are.....

Configuration Name: (Put your P/N in hear)
Description: (Nomenclature/Name of Part)
Comment: (Any reference text of choice)

After you fill out these areas you'll need to do one more thing and that is change the pull down in "Part number displayed when used in Bill of Materials" area. To do that pull down and change from "Document Name" to "Configuration Name" then select ok. Do this in all the configurations of that part file. Remember to save your work.

If you really want to get crazy, you could create a design table and make your modifications there.

I actually attempted what you’re doing at one time, but abandon that method. I found it easier to create my parts from scratch, created configurations, design tables and added the parts to the through the toolbox browser. I don’t need all the fancy stuff in the Access database. I just need the “part number” and “description” to show-up in my BOM when created.

Example:
NAS1351C4-24 SOCKET HEAD CAP SCREW

Toolbox is pretty much useless to me because we deal with military numbers and use UPPERCASE on everything. Toolbox has none of that to offer. Just a bunch of programmers making parts ....

Thanks for the input Macduff.

One of the reasons that I'm trying to go through the Access database is that I've been provided all the part numbers and descriptions in an Excel sheet. If I can find the table that stores the data in toolbox then I can automate the creation of my new part numbers and save myself many hours of work.

For what I'm doing, toolbox fits the bill nicely and I'm not ready to give up on it yet.

Thanks again.

Well, I asked my VAR who contacted SWX. Their reply: "We don't support users going into the database so we won't tell you..."

Seems like they'd be more willing to help me help myself.

That's true SW doesn't support users editing the DB files that they create. There is no telling what could come of those files if all users messed with that file. I have looked at those files but never have I messed with anything inside it.

Have you looked at the Default.mdb file? Maybe that will tell you something.
