[/b]What is the main reasons for top entry agitator mixer bottom bearing failures? The agitator shaft is approx. 8 meters long and diameter is 240 mm. The motor driver is 90 kw. Most of the failures were excessive wear in the Teflon bushing and steel sleeve. One incident the bottom of the impeller rubbed in the agitator and caused bend in the impeller. The agitator vendor proposed to enlarge the bottom bearing & support and cut the 600 mm from the bottom of the impeller & 1000 mm from the bottom of the two side baffles.

Hi Yousuf,

First you must understand you have not provided NEARLY enough information for a meaningful reply, at least from me.

As a start, it would sure help to know the difference, if any, between the "excessive wear in the Teflon bushing and steel sleeve" and the "bottom bearing failure."

A serious post would include "twenty seven eight-by-ten color glossy photographs with circles and arrows and a paragraph on the back of each one explaining what each one was." Plus drawings of the agitator arrangement, and pictures of the failed "bearing."

Nonetheless my suspicion is there are basic design deficiencies, perhaps intensified by poorly understood or poorly communicated operating conditions.
