Hi, I have a project to do ONLY a planimetric survey. My understanding for a planimetric survey is that all features and spot elevations are needed in 2D only. No surface breaklines nor any 3D CAD work is needed. Is my understanding correct? Any input will be appreciated. Thanks!!

Hi Dik, thanks for the reference. However, I would like to know if the definition of planimetric survey include that all linework should be in 3D so these lines can be used as breaklines for a TIN surface...

With total stations, you can have 3D data for the same survey.

dik, yes, with total station we can get points with elevations, but the CAD office work is much more easier if linework is just 2D (zero elevations, no breaklines, etc.)

Get the full data... and use a program like 'flatten.lsp' to collapse the information to a single elevation.

Thanks for your responses. So, looks like 3D linework is not needed for a planimetric survey.
dik, we just use Autocad to grab all the information and locate all features in a single elevation, i.e. Zero elevation. But it is good to know that there is some software that can do this as well. Thanks again.
